Chinese premium start-up confirms 2019 TCR motorsport entry alongside 373kW road car concept.

Lynk & Co has confirmed it will enter the FIA World Touring Car Cup in partnership with Cyan Racing, revealing a 500hp (373kW) road car concept based on its new 03 sedan.

When it hits the track in 2019, the Lynk & Co Cyan Racing 03 TCR will go head-to-head with racers from the likes of Audi, Honda, Hyundai and Volkswagen.

The TCR racer – pictured with ‘Cyan’ branding on the front and sides – will also spawn a “joint performance vehicle development project”, based on the racy 03 Cyan concept (pictured).

Lynk & Co says the 03 Cyan concept is the racing division’s take on a TCR racer for the road – similar to Volkswagen’s Golf GTI TCR road car. However, where the VW makes around 213kW in road-going form, the 03 Cyan is claimed to produce 500hp (373kW).

While it’s not a production model, the 03 Cyan is the “first step” towards an “extended performance offer” according to Lynk & Co, indicating the brand plans to make a high-po version of its new sedan.

“The fusion between Lynk & Co and Cyan Racing will form the spearhead of our automotive performance debut. The combination of Lynk & Co’s challenge of auto industry conventions and Cyan Racing’s vast motorsport and performance experience are two key elements in this unique cooperation,” said Victor Yang, vice president of communications at Lynk & Co’s parent, Zhejiang Geely Holding Group.

Swedish champion racing driver, Thed Björk, has been confirmed as one of Lynk & Co’s drivers for the Cyan Racing team in 2019, also pulling the covers off the race car at a private event at Fuji Raceway in Japan.

“To once again aim for the World Title when starting my seventh season with Cyan Racing is a dream coming true. Especially combined with this groundbreaking cooperation with Lynk & Co that will include the development of a high-performance concept road car is nothing less than amazing,” Björk said.

While this is Cyan Racing’s first time working with Lynk & Co, the racing firm has history with the Chinese brand’s fellow Geely subsidiary, Volvo, having collaborated with the Swedish manufacturer on the C30 Concept and S60 Concept.
