‘We’re focused on bringing world-class vehicles across the SUVs, LCVs and passenger segments that resonate with our customers.’

The Holden Barina will soon be dropped from the Australian line-up, the company has confirmed this week.

Speaking with CarAdvice, a Holden spokesperson said the Barina “will not continue as part of Holden line-up”.

“Our Barina customers will continue to have the highest quality service from our Holden dealers,” she added.

The decision marks the end of a nameplate that has been around for over 30 years and six generations.

In its current form, the Barina is a rebadged version of the Chevrolet Soniq offered by General Motors in numerous overseas markets.

The facelifted version (top) went on sale locally at the end of 2016, bringing a revised exterior, an updated MyLink infotainment system with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, and LED daytime-running lights.

While not a sales leader, the Barina was still shifting a decent amount of units ahead of its demise. For the month of August it managed 229 registrations (-19.9 per cent for the month), while its year-to-date figure stands at 2329 units as of August 31 (+6.2 per cent).

Holden also dropped the smaller Spark in April, leaving the Trax crossover and Astra small car as its entry-level offerings, starting at $20,490 and $23,990 before on-road costs respectively.
