New features available in latest update, which are also available on Apple CarPlay.

Google Maps users are now able to search for EV (electric vehicle) charging stations, as part of the popular app’s latest update.

Along with the locations of charging stations, users are able to see the type and number of charging ports available at the location, as well as charging speeds.

Users are also able to post reviews, pictures and questions about the stations. Links to businesses offering the charging will also be available, so users can access more information such as what points are currently being used.

The functionality will be rolled out across Google Maps globally, with support in Australia for companies such as Tesla, ChargePoint and Chargefox.

“We built Google Maps to help people get where they need to go no matter what mode of transportation they use. Our newest feature brings helpful information about EV charging stations to the Map, so you can be confident that your car will be charged and ready for your ride, wherever you’re headed,” said Google in a statement.

The same update also brings the option of estimated time of arrival (ETA) information sharing to the iOS platform. This feature, called ‘journey sharing’ by Google, has been available on the Android App since last year, allows users to share their navigation route with others in real time.

The update also allows users to share their ETA with others through third-party apps such as Facebook Messenger and WhatsApp, using the ‘share trip progress’ option.

Journey sharing will be available across walking, cycling, public transport and driving navigation options.
