Mazda to show off the next generation of its global best-selling model in November.

A first official preview of the new-generation Mazda 3 has been handed down this evening, ahead of what is expected to be an LA motor show debut.

For now, the company has confirmed only that the new model will appear in November, but this makes Los Angeles the most likely location.

As expected, the new verson of the popular Mazda 3 will take its styling inspiration from the Kai concept revealed at last year’s Tokyo motor show – although we shouldn’t expect that muscly show car’s proportions to leap into production without some significant toning down.

Indeed, a set of design patent illustrations obtained by website CarScoops reveals what we’ll see from the new model in its sedan form, looking for all the world like a downsized version of the recently facelifted Mazda 6.

That should come as no surprise, with Mazda having played it safe already on the rebodied CX-5, evolving the now well-established ‘Kodo’ styling theme that debuted way back in 2010 with the Shinari concept.
