More than 500 SUVs could be fitted with leaking brakes, though parts won’t be available until January next year.
NIssan Australia has issued a recall for 554 examples of its Pathfinder sold during 2017 and 2018 over concerns of a brake fluid leak.
The manufacturer reports affected models could be fitted with faulty ABS actuator oil seals that may leak brake fluid internally.
“If the brake fluid leaks, an ABS warning lamp will illuminate to alert the driver. If the vehicle continues to be operated in this condition, the brake fluid leak may create an electrical short in the actuator circuit, which in rare cases could potentially lead to a fire,” Nissan says.
Recalled Pathfinder models were sold rom 1 February 2017 through 31 August 2018 – a VIN list is available here.
Parts will not be available until January 2019, and affected owners will be contacted by Nissan to arrange a free vehicle inspection. If required, ABS actuator replacements will be carried out free of charge when parts become available.
