66,194 vehicles could be affected by a power steering fault.
GM Holden has issued a recall for the 2014 to 2016 model-year VF Commodore, WN Caprice, and related HSV versions over concerns the power steering system could fail.
The manufacturer reports “increased electrical resistance in a component within the Electric Power Steering system may result in a loss of power steering assistance”.
If the condition occurs, it could increase the effort required to turn the steering wheel, or even loss of steering control.
Holden says the issue poses an increased risk of accident or injury to the vehicle’s occupants and other road users.
Affected models were built on or prior to 30 April 2015, with 66,194 vehicles affected in total – 58,731 Commodores, 1938 Caprices, and 5525 units across the HSV Clubsport, Maloo and GTS lines. The VIN list for these vehicles can be accessed here.
Owners of the recalled models will be contacted by Holden directly when parts become available – though exact timing is still to be determined.
