Hey Siri, unlock my car for me… The system works with touch, but voice feels more futuristic, right?

Volkswagen has added Siri capability to its Car-Net smartphone application, allowing owners to use their voice for functions like locking, unlocking and honking the horn.

Owners need to be running iOS12 on their device, and can then just say things like “Hey Siri, lock my car” to make the Car-Net integration work. Along with the iPhone, you’re able to control your car using an Apple Watch, for a proper Get Smart vibe in your Volkswagen.

The full list of voice-integrated features is extensive: you’re able to check fuel/battery levels, find where your car is parked, pre-condition the cabin, and even start/stop charging for plug-in hybrid vehicles.

Of course, the application can do all these things through the normal touch interface as well. Along with the aforementioned features, Car-Net includes a trial for other connected-car features like crash notification, stolen car tracking, and a subscription to SiriusXM in the USA.

Car-Net isn’t offered in Australia at the moment, so the latest updates won’t have an impact on local owners for now.
