Variant with an off-road focus is the second model axed before entering production due to the company’s money problems.
The Land Rover Discovery SVX has been axed before a single car has rolled down the production line.
Land Rover has confirmed the SVX’s demise to Autocar, stating the vehicle unveiled at 2017 Los Angeles motor show, and originally slated to go on sale locally in late 2018, will not be manufactured.
In addition to having a raft of modifications aimed at improving its off-roading ability, the SVX was to be the only Discovery variant available with a V8 engine.
According to the magazine, the SVX’s supercharged 368kW/625Nm 5.0-litre V8 is longer on the cards for the current Discovery.
Despite this, the company says it still plans to use the SVX badge in the future, although it’s unclear when and where it will appear. The SVX sub-brand was originally conceived as an off-road companion to the high-performance SVO line.
The Discovery SVX’s demise follows news of a similar fate for the Range Rover SV Coupe.
At the end of January, the company announced it would not go ahead with production of the limited edition three-door Range Rover, with the automaker choosing to focus its “resources and investment on the next generation of world-class products”.
