American talk show host gets behind the wheel of Sweden’s ‘mega car’.

After sampling the manic and electric Tesla Roadster, Jay Leno has returned to good ol’ combustion power in the latest instalment of Jay Leno’s Garage.

This week, he drives the Koenigsegg Regera with none other than Christian von Koenigsegg riding shotgun on the roads of Los Angeles.

It’s not completely ‘old school’, though. Power in the Regera comes from a 5.0-litre twin-turbo V8 partnered with three electric motors – one ahead of the crankshaft and two for each rear wheel.

System outputs are rated at 1.11 megawatts (MW) or 1500hp and around 1280Nm of torque. In terms of performance, Koenigsegg reckons the Regera will do 0-400km/h in “under 20 seconds” and only take 3.2 seconds to get from 150km/h to 250km/h.

Drive is sent to the rear wheels via the company’s patent-pending Koenigsegg Direct Drive transmission (KDD), which removes the need for a traditional gearbox by sending drive directly to the rear axle from the combustion.

Anyway, that’s enough facts and figures, have a watch of the Regera in action with Jay Leno behind the wheel:
