Superhero-themed crossover limited to just 400 units in Australia, featuring unique appointments inside and out.

Hyundai Australia has announced pricing and specification for the limited-run Kona Iron Man Edition “arriving in showrooms soon” priced from $39,990 before on-road costs.

Based on the flagship all-wheel drive Highlander, the Kona Iron Man Edition picks up a swag of bespoke features inspired by the Marvel superhero, loosely based on the concept vehicle shown at the Kona’s debut a couple of years ago.

As previously reported, headlining equipment includes matte grey exterior paint with contrasting Iron Man red accents and roof, ‘Iron Grip’ 18-inch dual-tone alloys, Iron Man emblems on the front guards and projected through the puddle lights, and a redesigned bonnet with ‘Marvel’ logo.

Inside, there’s red stitching and piping for the leather-accented seats, ‘Stark Industries’ logo on the seats with Iron Man logos in the back rests, Iron Man-themed menus for the 8.0-inch navigation system with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, a character-themed welcome animation for the driver’s cluster and head-up display, Tony Stark’s signature on the dashboard, along with themed graphics for the steering wheel and gear selector.

Carryover features from the Highlander grade include LED head- and tail-lights, keyless entry with push-button start, and climate control air-conditioning, along with active safety features like autonomous emergency braking, blind-spot monitoring, rear cross-traffic alert, lane-keep assist, highbeam assist, and driver attention warning.

Power comes from a 1.6-litre turbocharged petrol engine making 130kW and 265Nm, sent to all four wheels via a seven-speed dual-clutch automatic.

“With only 400 cars coming to Australia, the Kona Iron Man Edition will be a unique ownership experience, combining the Kona’s style, technology and performance with a slice of superhero fun,” said JW Lee, CEO for Hyundai Australia.

“The Kona range has always had a strong identity with its expressive styling and choice of vibrant exterior colours, but the Kona Iron Man Edition takes this a step further with its audacious Iron Man inspired looks and tech equipment.”
