From the off, the 2020 Tesla Model Y looks a lot like a smaller Model X with a Model 3 front end. The roofline is rounded, the nose has no grille, and the rear overhang is very short.

Inside, the cabin is dominated by a 15-inch touchscreen in the center console. The rest of the layout is the same streamlined design we’ve grown accustomed to seeing from the California brand. There’s optional seating for seven passengers, plus a panoramic glass roof up top. Between the front trunk and split-folding second row, the Model Y offers as much as 66 cubic-feet of cargo room. There’s also tons of tech onboard, including smartphone-operated entry and exit, remote lock and unlock, remote cabin pre-conditioning, and a Summon mode. Autopilot is also offered.

Per usual, Tesla expects the highest possible safety ratings across the board.

In top-trim form, the 2020 Tesla Model Y goes 0 to 60 mph in just 3.5 seconds, while top speed clocks in at 150 mph. Musk also boasts the Y offers “sports car” handling thanks to the EV’s low center of gravity.

The Standard trim will go 230 miles between plugs, while higher trims offer as much as 300 miles per charge.

The 2020 Tesla Model Y starts at $39,000 for the Standard Range trim level, which will be available in early 2021. Alternatively, you can order higher trims now, including the Rear-Wheel Drive Long Range ($42,700), Dual-Motor All-Wheel Drive Long Range ($46,700), and Dual Motor All-Wheel Drive Performance ($55,700). Check out Tesla’s Design Studio for order information. Deliveries will commence later in 2020 for the higher trims, while the Standard Range trim is set for delivery in the spring of 2021.
