New SUV gets closer to reveal, with fresh teaser revealing (officially) its new lighting signature.

Mercedes-Benz has turned attention to its next big SUV unveiling just a few days after the EQC reveal, teasing the new GLE.

Numerous leaks and sets of spy pictures mean we already have a pretty good idea of how the GLE will look when it arrives. As revealed by the teaser, we know the car will have a prominent AMG-style grille with a single bar, and debut a new lighting signature for the brand’s SUVs.

It should still be recognisable as a GLE, though, thanks to a very similar rear three-quarter treatment to the current car and the ML before it.

Down back, we’re expecting a more modern interpretation of the edgy current taillights to feature. Under the skin, the new GLE will ride on the lighter, more efficient MHA architecture, with power from a range of petrol, diesel and hybrid powertrains to take on the BMW X5.

Along with the usual AMG 63 variant, expect to see a mild-hybrid AMG 53 model.

Bigger changes will be noticeable inside, where the dual-screen MBUX infotainment system will feature above a new quad-air-vent layout, while a G-Wagen inspired pair of grab handles have been added to the transmission tunnel. It’s looks far rougher and tougher than the current car inside, and promises to bring a heap more technology to the table.
