Updated light hatchback to offer turbo power, AEB, and sporty flagship variant.
The Kia Rio GT-Line will be coming to Australia after all, with a social media video by a Melbourne dealer confirming the sport-themed variant for the local line-up.
UPDATE, 25/10/18: Kia Australia has confirmed pricing and specifications for the MY19 Rio range, read more here.
Werribee Kia in Melbourne’s west published a quick walkaround of the GT-Line on Facebook, showing the new trim level on the showroom floor.
Full specifications aren’t detailed, though features mentioned in the clip include a turbocharged engine, autonomous emergency braking, sports body kit, leather steering wheel, and leather-accented seat trim.
That’s pretty consistent with the vehicle premiered at the Geneva motor show earlier this year, which also gets ‘ice cube’ quad-LED fog-lights, unique 17-inch alloy wheels, dual exhaust tips, a gloss black roof spoiler, a flat-bottom sports steering wheel, leatherette/cloth seats, and a carbon-fibre-look dash insert.
However, it appears the vehicle in the video has a lower-spec infotainment system than the one currently available on the mid-tier Si and top-spec SLi, dropping the in-built navigation function but retaining the 7.0-inch display – Apple CarPlay and Android Auto should still be offered, though.
The aforementioned turbocharged engine should be the 1.0-litre three-cylinder turbo petrol engine offered overseas, putting out 88kW of power and 171Nm of torque, sending drive to the front wheels via a seven-speed dual-clutch automatic.
Additionally, the fitment of autonomous emergency braking is a first for the Rio in Australia, hinting at a 2019 update that should introduce the important safety feature along with lane-departure warning across the local range.
Other anticipated changes include the introduction of a six-speed automatic on naturally-aspirated lower grades of the Rio, replacing the current four-speeder.
Stay tuned to CarAdvice for a full pricing and specification run-down when Kia Australia confirms those details.
