What Makes the 2020 Isuzu D-Max Workman+ Double Cab Special?

The Isuzu D-Max Workman+ Double Cab is based on the D-Max Utility Double Cab model.

Isuzu has not done much in terms of appearance and aesthetics. The truck still comes with the same aggressive looks as the standard utility cab. The swept-back headlamps with the black plastic bumper still retain the ’workhorse’ looks. The Workman+ edition, however, is offered in two new exterior shades – Cosmic Black Mica and Sapphire Blue Mica – apart from the standard Splash White, Titanium Silver Metallic, and Obsidian Grey Mica. The side profile looks similar as well, other than the 18-inch alloys exclusive to the Workman+ edition. Although the D-Max Utility is considered a budget work truck, the steel wheels without any wheel covers look downright pathetic. This edition also brings along a pair of side steps that are functional and add a lot of character to the truck. So, I’m glad that one of the changes includes the addition of six-spoke silver wheels. Not the best design, but I’m not complaining.

The truck bed comes with a load liner that isn’t part of the standard Utility Cab.

This may sound surprising to many of you, but I find the back of the Isuzu D-Max to be much more sorted and handsome than the likes from Chevy, and Ford, and Ram. The difference is not much, but perhaps the bigger taillights with different integrations for the brake lights, reverse lights, and turn-indicator signals do the trick. The standard feature list actually includes some nice stuff like projector headlights, LED daytime running lights, rear fog lights, and heated wing mirrors, to name a few. Another useful addition to the Workman+ edition is the full-size spare wheel. It’s quite baffling that it is not offered on the standard Utility model.

The black, hard-plastic cabin is well laid-out for the segment we are talking about.

The cabin is well-screwed and can handle abuse comfortably. The Double Cab’s cabin is spacious and the cloth seats are comfortable, too. The driver’s side seat is height-adjustable, there are cup holders at the front, and there’s an armrest as well. In terms of entertainment, the Workman+ edition is offered with a DAB radio and a reversing camera mounted under the bumper. Given the kind of workload the D-Max would be put through, I would have preferred a better integration as this can get knocked out quite easily. The visuals from the camera will be displayed on the inside rear view mirror. The D-Max Workman+ Double Cab edition also comes with a tow bar and 13-pin electrics that are compatible with trailers that have LED lights.

There are no changes made to the drivetrain whatsoever.

The Isuzu D-Max Workman+ Edition is powered by a 1.9-liter, four-cylinder mill that produces 162 horses and 265 pound-feet of torque.

The torque is actually quite sufficient and lets you pull heavy loads from a standstill rather easily. The truck takes 12.7 seconds from a standstill to 60 mph and tops out at 112 miles per hour. The best part about this engine is its efficiency; it delivers up to 40.4 miles per gallon, combined. The Isuzu D-Max Workman+ Edition’s towing and payload capacities are rated at 7,716 pounds and 2,515 pounds respectively.

The Isuzu D-Max Workman+ Double Cab Edition is priced at £21,495 ($27,195 approximately). That’s £700 ($885) over the standard Utility Cab. The stuff you get for the extra amount of green is absolutely worth it. The vehicle will retain the standard 5-year/125,000 warranty, and will be available in the showrooms from the first week of July.
