Facelifted supercar previewed in social media post.

Audi Sport, the German marque’s performance and motorsport division, appears to have previewed the updated version of the R8 in a teaser image on Facebook.

UPDATE, 24/10/18: The 2019 Audi R8 and R8 Spyder have been revealed this morning shortly after publication of this article. Read more here

Published earlier this week, the picture shows two R8s, one featuring some design elements that aren’t on the current model.

We can see three horizontal slats above the front grille, the grille itself appears larger than the current one, along with more angular elements for the front intakes and splitter.

The overall look is quite similar to that of the new 2019 R8 LMS race car, which was revealed at the Paris motor show earlier this month. Beyond that, though, we don’t know much else.

It’s believed the facelifted R8 will make its official debut very soon, before launching next year as a ‘2020’ model.

Other than the external changes, it’s likely the R8 will get some trim and infotainment upgrades, while some are speculating the 5.2-litre naturally-aspirated V10 could be getting a power bump as well.

Currently, the Lamborghini-sourced motor is available in 397kW/540Nm and 449kW/560Nm tunes. Considering the related Lamborghini Huracan Performante makes 470kW and 600Nm from the same engine, we reckon Audi has a bit of room to move.

Recent spy images (above) indicate Audi could be planning a racy flagship variant in similar vein to the first-generation R8 GT, with more power, less weight, and unique design elements like oval-shaped tailpipes and a larger fixed rear wing.

Such a model could potentially borrow the higher tune of the Huracan Performante, serving as Audi’s halo variant for its halo performance model.
