Scotty i see all that stuff in your garage but when you repair a car do you work with jacks or is there a bridge hidden in there somwhere?

On the subject of engine wear at startup, it's worth bearing in mind that all engine components – even those at the top – always have a film of oil on them that protects them for the few seconds it takes for the oil to be pumped up to the top after you turn the key.

Indeed, there are numerous YT videos that confirm you can drain the oil pan and run an engine for a long time before the oil film on the components wears off and damage starts occurring.

Odd, one video you talk about the newer motors with better metallurgy and lubricants, then you say this?

Great video as usual. Autostart is just the tip of the iceberg of what car makers want to do to deliberately make your care wear out after 4.5 years. A HUGE part of that strategy has to do with destroying the independent, honest and price-competitive car mechanic, by withholding software / programming tools, or, where there is a "right to repair" law, only making them available at dishonest, inflated prices to force said mechanic to charge in line with dealer service rates — it's a kind of end run attempt at price fixing to ensure that your car, when it starts needing service regularly 4+ years costs you so much money that you trade it in, allowing them to capture even more of your hard earned $$. If that sounds un-American to you, write your Congresspeople, and tell them we need a ROBUST right to repair law that forces auto makers to provide copies of their source code. That should be the price for having their "IP" protected by mega-robust copyright, trade secret, and patent law.

Scotty, just thinking ahead to my next used car purchase, are there ANY Jaguars or Land Rovers made in the last 5 years that are worth a damn? Or are they all just money pits waiting to happen?

  8. akupehsluarketatAR

    Crank up ur starter motor!!!

When was the last time you had an engine failure on a modern car? Start/Stop being used by thousands of people will save a lot of fuel.

Scotty ! My 2013 Lexus CT 200h just reach 111,000 miles. Runs like a clock still. Any suggestions on what I can do to keep it running as long as possible ? I know you been somewhat critical on some hybrid cars lol
