Hey Scotty, I have a 2006 GMC Envoy XL Denali V8 AWD with 62,500 miles. I'm starting to get a knocking noise in the engine. Is this common with this model year and mileage? I'm not sure the cause of the noise.

I remember once, some years ago going to the Chevy website and playing with the pre-purchase vehicle configuration tool… I chose a super basic, no-frills, S10 truck: 4 cylinder, manual trans, vinyl bench seat, AM/FM radio… basically declining any option that would raise the price. When all was said and done, the site recommended I buy a similar Nissan truck, as it would cost about $4K less than the S10.

Electric fuel pump inside the fuel tank makes a lot of sense because the fuel not only lubricates the pump, it also provides pressure to minimise the chance cavitation, minimizing the risk of detonating the engine due to unexpected lean out.

As for the fuel filter inside the tank, that is asinine. My car is has electronic port injected petrol engine with the typical in fuel tank fuel pump, but the fuel filter is somewhere in line with the fuel line on its way from the fuel tank to the fuel rail. The fuel filter is quite cheap and easy to change as long as you can safely lift and suspend the car off the ground. The recommended change interval is once every 20,000km.
